A Carpe Diem Snapshot:

ree

Attempting to teach the Gospel to natural enemies, we introduced a foundling birdie to a baby kitten last night, and we are happy to report that the innocence of youth won the moment. We didn't invite the cynical adult cat Minerva into the peace experiment, however.

Liturgical: Tuesday of the Eleventh Week in Ordinary Time

Jesus said to his disciples:

"You have heard that it was said,

You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.

But I say to you, love your enemies

and pray for those who persecute you,

that you may be children of your heavenly Father,

for he makes his sun rise on the bad and the good,

and causes rain to fall on the just and the unjust.

For if you love those who love you, what recompense will you have?

Matthew 5:43-48

Long prayer before the Blessed Sacrament has been characteristic of many Catholics who have lived out the gospel well: Saint Francis, Bishop Fulton Sheen, Cardinal Joseph Bernardin, and Saint Teresa of Calcutta among them. Saint Joseph Cafasso is the Patron Saint of: Prisoners

The Roman Martyrology commemorates St. Hervé (d. c.556 to c.575) (also known as Harvey, Herveus, Huva), who is one of the most popular saints in Brittany. He was born in a family of bards. Blind since his young age, guided by a wolf, according to legend, he led the life of a pilgrim. One day, however, he settled at Plouvien, then at Lan-Houarneau (Herwan or Hervé in Breton) where he dedicated himself to God to sing praises in the monastery he founded there.
