Liturgical: Divine Mercy Sunday!

Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book. But these are written so that you may come to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through believing you may have life in his name.

John 20:19-31

Fr. Plant's Homily-Lesson: Do Not Doubt but Believe

The last stational procession is held at the Church of St. Pancras. Those newly baptized are now full fledged members of the Christian community. This church is most appropriate since St. Pancras was a young man of fourteen who sealed his baptismal promises with his blood.

Sanctoral: St. Zita of Lucca, +1271

By her meek and humble self-restraint, Zita succeeded in overcoming the malice of her fellow-servants. She gave a third of her wages to her parents, kept a third, and gave the rest to the poor. The mistress of the house placed Zita in charge of the household almsgiving, and allowed her to visit the sick poor in their own homes and tend to their needs. A small room isolated from the rest of the house was put at Zita's disposal. She would venture out in the evenings and invite poor homeless women to supper. The room, which had a bed, was offered as safe shelter for the night.

Natural: Benefits of the Cleavers Plant: A Spring Herb for Health

The herb is an amazing spring cleanser and lymph mover, removing waste and abnormal cells. The unusual name, “cleavers,” comes from its most identifying feature: the fact that the plant sticks (or cleaves) to clothing and even the skin by way of the tiny hairs along the stem and seed pods. In fact, this plant is said to be one of the inspirations for Velcro. The botanical name, Galium, is Greek for milk due to the curdling property of the leaves, which are used in cheesemaking, particularly in England.

Italian: Tanto di cappello! (Hats off!)

Quote: "On one occasion, I heard these words: "My daughter, tell the whole world about My inconceivable mercy. I desire that the Feast of Mercy be a refuge and shelter for all souls, and especially for poor sinners. On that day the very depths of My tender mercy are open. I pour out a whole ocean of graces upon those souls who approach the fount of My mercy. The soul that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion shall obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment. On that day all the divine floodgates through which graces flow are opened. Let no soul fear to draw near to Me, even though its sins be as scarlet. My mercy is so great that no mind, be it of man or of angel, will be able to fathom it throughout all eternity. Everything that exists has come forth from the very depths of My most tender mercy. Every soul in its relation to Me will contemplate My love and mercy throughout eternity. The Feast of Mercy emerged from My very depths of tenderness." —Excerpted from Diary of Sr. M. Faustina Kowalska
